About Marcus

Marcus Andersson grew up in a family that treated the sauna as a regular part of life, not a wellness trend. His mother's Finnish-American family in Minnesota's Iron Range has a tradition of building and using Finnish-style saunas going back generations. Growing up, the family sauna was for Saturday nights after sports, for holidays, for conversations that happened better in 80°C heat than anywhere else. Marcus came to writing about saunas not as an outsider researching a trend but as someone who already understood what made a sauna good or bad from the inside.

He started writing about home saunas in 2018 when his parents installed an Almost Heaven 4-person barrel sauna in their backyard. He documented the installation process, compared heater options, wrote about the first season of use — and found that the combination of his personal familiarity with sauna culture and the genuine lack of honest buyer-side resources made for a useful niche. In 2022, he installed a Lifesmart 2-person infrared sauna in his Minneapolis basement — partly for practical use through Minnesota winters, partly to have firsthand baseline experience with the infrared segment he writes about. He does not pretend his two-person basement unit gives him expertise on Sunlighten Sanctuary 4 installation or Clearlight commercial builds. But he knows what the ownership experience of a mid-range infrared sauna actually feels like, and he uses that baseline as a reference point when evaluating higher-end claims.

Marcus is not a certified sauna installer. He is not a wellness practitioner. He is a writer with personal interest, family tradition, and eight years of accumulated research. His approach is sourced: he attributes claims to manufacturer specifications, SaunaSeeker testing data, r/Sauna community reports, and cited publications rather than asserting expertise he does not have. He acknowledges when he has not tested a product personally and draws on documented community experience instead.

SaunasSoSimple is his attempt to write the sauna buyer's resource that did not exist when his parents were evaluating barrel saunas in 2018 — research-based, brand-honest, priced-realistically, and useful for buyers who want to make a good decision rather than an expensive one.
