The accessories that actually improve a sauna session are fewer than the market would have you believe, but the ones that matter do matter. I use a Saunum bucket and birch ladle for löyly — the birch handle stays cool and the bucket is sized right for the stones. A good backrest makes sitting upright for long sessions significantly more comfortable; mine is simple spruce with aluminium fixings. A sauna pillow is useful if you lie on the upper bench. A sauna mat on the lower bench protects it and makes the space feel more finished. A thermometer and hygrometer tell you what conditions you're actually in — my ThermoSauna combo unit is simple and accurate. Beyond those functional items, the market is full of accessories that are aesthetically nice but add little to the actual experience: decorative buckets, branded ladles, and essential oil sets. Eucalyptus essential oil in the löyly water is genuinely pleasant (I use Aura Cacia), but it's a $10 bottle rather than a category requiring a buying guide.
