General sauna guides cover the cross-cutting topics that don't fit neatly into a single product category or brand comparison — the context a buyer needs before they can make a good specific decision. That includes comparisons between sauna types (infrared versus traditional versus steam), explanations of the key technical concepts (EMF, ELF, kilowatt sizing, löyly, dry heat versus wet heat), and overviews of what to expect from the buying process. When my parents were evaluating barrel saunas in 2018, the gap I found most frustrating was the lack of honest cross-category comparison content — most resources were either brand-specific marketing or surface-level listicles that didn't actually explain the trade-offs. The goal of the guides in this section is to fill that gap: help buyers understand what questions to ask before they start comparing specific models, and explain the concepts that underlie the specifications they'll see in product listings. The articles here draw on manufacturer documentation, the Finnish sauna community's published guidance, and the ESPA Foundation's standards for sauna construction and operation.
