Heaters & Components
Components & Materials
The quality of a sauna session depends as much on the components around the heater as on the heater itself. Sauna doors — glass versus wood, proper seals to hold heat without trapping steam — are one of the most visually distinctive elements and one of the most technically demanding to get right. Ventilation is critical in traditional saunas: proper airflow prevents carbon dioxide buildup and regulates humidity, but a badly placed vent can drain heat faster than the heater can replace it. Lighting has a real effect on the experience — harsh overhead LEDs are jarring in a sauna environment; warm low-voltage lighting set into the bench or wall feels right. Thermometers and hygrometers (I use a ThermoSauna combo unit) let you actually know what conditions you're in rather than guessing. Interior finishing — the trim around doors and vents, the bench supports, the backrest — all affect the long-term durability and the tactile quality of the space. The guides here cover the main sauna components — doors, vents, controls, lighting, and measurement — with attention to the specifications that actually matter versus the ones that look good in photos.
