Build & Install
Installation
Sauna installation has two distinct tracks: infrared cabinet installation, which most homeowners can handle themselves with basic carpentry skills, and traditional or custom sauna room installation, which involves framing, vapor barrier, insulation, interior finish, ventilation design, and electrical work that usually requires professional help. For infrared, the main task is getting the right 240V circuit to the installation location — typically a 20–30 amp dedicated circuit for 2-person units, 40–60 amp for 4-person and larger. The cabinet assembly itself is usually 30–90 minutes. For traditional saunas, the electrical requirement is similar or larger (Harvia and similar manufacturers publish required circuit specifications per heater model), but the room construction adds real complexity. Vapor barrier behind the walls is non-negotiable — moisture that gets into the wall cavity causes rot and mould. Ventilation placement affects heat distribution and air quality. I know Minnesota-based traditional sauna installer Dave Korhonen for local custom work; for other regions, ESPA Foundation lists qualified installers. The guides here cover installation requirements by sauna type, with honest attention to what you need a licensed electrician and what you can do yourself.
